As planned, today Xiaomi announced the second-gen Huami Amazfit 2. Actually, there are two variants dubbed as the AMAZFIT Smart Sports Watch 2 and AMAZFIT Smart Sports Watch 2S Premium Edition. The former on is priced at 999 yuan ($150) and it’s available for purchase starting today. As for the second model, it’s priced at 1499 yuan ($226), and it will go on sale on January 9.
The higher variant named the Huami AMAZFIT 2S Premium Edition uses a 2.5D sapphire glass. The frame is made of durable wear-resistant zirconia ceramic, while the key and lugs are made of 316L stainless steel. The housing uses a 3D laser carbon fiber texture comfortable to wear for all cases. As you see, the company has paid too much attention to the appearance.
The Xiaomi Huami AMAZFIT 2 comes with a second-gen built-in Sony 28nm low-power GPS chip supporting 11 kinds of sports modes: running, walking, outdoor riding, pool swimming, open water swimming, indoor running, indoor riding, elliptical, mountaineering, cross-country running, and triathlon. It also cooperates with Firstbeat that provides physiology and heartbeat analytics for sports and well-being. Especially, its motion algorithm gives corresponding data of exercise physiology once it’s done: the maximum oxygen uptake (VO 2 max), exercise effect (TE), exercise load (TD), and the time required for recovery. This helps users to improve their athletic ability and performance.
It’s said the Huami AMAZFIT 2 is capable of providing up to 35 hours of heavy use when the GPS is ON. So it can support 100km cross-country race easily. But if you use it in a regular way, the AMAZFIT 2 will provide up to 5 days of life on a single charge.
Of course, we are dealing with a waterproof with a 5 ATM (aka Water-Resistant to 50 Meters) label. But this is a Xiaomi product, so even here you can hope for more. The Huami AMAZFIT 2 supports data record as well as professional data identification such as swimming position and more.
