On March 27, at a new product launch conference, the Chinese tech giant came in with a few amazing products. One of them is the first Xiaomi Gaming Laptop. Previously, Xiaomi has launched a few ultrabooks to compete with the Apple MacBook Air. It even didn’t hide its goals and named those laptops as the Xiaomi Mi Notebook Air. But this time, the manufacturer comes in with quite another notebook designed for quite different purposes. Honestly, this is very reasonable move. The e-sports industry is developing rapidly. So the gaming experience and the gamers are getting more attention towards manufacturers. As for this gaming laptop, in addition to the diversified hardware configurations, it also comes at a low starting price of 5999 yuan ($950).
Almost all Xiaomi laptops use the logo-less design. The Xiaomi Gaming Laptop is no exception. Moreover, all the latest Xiaomi notebooks come with only one color option – that is the dark gray. According to official data, the body measurements of this laptop are 364.0mm x 265.2mm x 20.9mm and a weight of 2.7 kg. So we can state, we are dealing with a ‘lightweight’ player.
The laptop also comes with four outlets – two of them are placed on the sides like other gaming notebooks, while the next two are on the back. The air intake, like many similar products, is distributed at the bottom of the fuselage. Unlike many gaming laptops, the Xiaomi Gaming Laptop uses an uncommon hidden-piston design (like the Spectre Ghost notebook released by HP in 2016). As a result, it can achieve the visual effects of a floating screen.
As for the interfaces, they are located on both sides of the body as well as on the back. In total, there is a number of ports including a USB Type-C, four USB 3.0 ports, two headphone-microphone combo ports, one microphone port, one HDMI 2.0 port, a 3-in-1 card reader, and a Gigabit Ethernet port.
The Xiaomi Gaming Laptop sports a 15.6-inch display with a resolution of 1920×1080 (142ppi), a 178° wide viewing angle, 300nits brightness, and a 72% NTSC color gamut. It is worth mentioning that it uses a narrow border design. According to the official data, the border width is 9.9mm on both sides, while the screen share is 81%.
The keyboard seems common at the first sight. But actually, the company has done its best to come in with an excellent keyboard. The key process is 1.8mm, and the keys come with an anti-collision option. The palm rest area is very large. There are up to 5 programmable function keys on the left side of the keyboard. Most of them can be customized according to your own needs.
We are dealing with a high-end gaming laptop. So it’s expected to see colorful lightning effects. The Xiaomi Gaming Laptop provides two kinds of lightning – one is the C-side keyboard area, and the other is the light strips on both sides of the fuselage. There are three different modes of breathing, waves, and bright, providing five brightness adjustments.
In terms of hardware configuration, the lowest version is equipped with an Intel Core i5 standard pressure processor, 8GB DDR4 2400MHz memory, 128GB SSD + 1TB mechanical hard drive, and GTX 1050Ti graphics. In addition to the low-level version, there are three GTX 1060-only versions. They include an i7 processor + 16GB memory + 256GB SSD + 1TB mechanical hard disk version, i7 processor + 8GB memory + 128GB SSD + 1TB mechanical hard disk version, and i5 processor + 8GB memory + 128GB SSD + 1TB mechanical hard disk version. They are priced at 5999 yuan, 6999 yuan, 7999 yuan, and 8999 yuan.
