The iPhone X is the first phone with a full-screen relatively dubbed as ‘Bangs screen’. Unlike the tri-bezel-less Xiaomi Mi MIX 2 and another kind of full-screen, the Huawei Mate 10, the iPhone X provides one of the highest screen ratios. So it’s reasonable why many manufacturers are thinking on a handset with an identical design. Say, Huawei is said to come with something like that in the nearest future. The rumor has it the Xiaomi Mi 7 may come with a similar display as well. We can list too many names and brands that are working on a bangs-screen handset. But while we are doing this and while the mentioned companies are working on smartphones like the iPhone X, some Chinese manufacturers launch their own models. The closest alternative of the iPhone X has made a huge stir around it a few days back. Now the Oukitel U18 is available for pre-order for $159.99 only. So the only thing you have to do is to get acquainted with its key features, make sure it sports a decent specs list, and pre-order your own unit.
Actually, the Oukitel U18 can’t compete with the original iPhone X. But we are not going to compare these two models. They belong to different weight categories, and it would be senseless to think the U18 can throw a glove to the Apple iPhone. But the truth is it comes with the same selling points of the iPhone X including the bangs screen and a facial recognition option. So it would be a great offer for those who are tight on budget and want a smartphone looking like the iPhone X and providing a stable performance.
The Oukitel U18 comes with a 5.85-inch full-screen with a resolution of 1512×720 pixels. In this sense, it yields its founding father a lot. The iPhone X sports a 5.8-inch screen with a whopping resolution of 2436×1125 pixels. And though the Oukitel U18’s screen resolution is acceptable if taking into account its price segment, we are concerned about the company’s wrong advertisement of a 21:9 aspect ratio. In reality, it’s 19:9.
Under the hood, we can find a MediaTek MT6750T octa-core chip, which is paired with a 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal storage. The chip uses 4x 1.5GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores and 4x 1.0GHz ARM Cortex-A53 cores. It also uses 64 bits architecture and graphics processor ARM Mali-T860 MP2. Thanks to them it scores around 39K at AnTuTu.
There is a battery with a large capacity of 4000mAh. It can be charged via the USB Type-C port, which also provides a way faster data transfer. The company has canceled the 3.5mm audio jack. So you have to listen to music via either Bluetooth or the same USB-C interface.
The Oukitel U18 features a dual-camera on the back placed vertically. The main sensor carries a model number of Sony IMX135 at 16 MP, while the secondary shooter has a 5 MP sensor. On the front, we have a 13MP camera provided by Omnivision. And this is the second selling point of this handset, as it is capable of unlocking the phone using a facial recognition technology.
