Like the previous year, the second smartphone maker in China, Oppo announced the successor to its current flagship on November 2. We have heard about the upcoming beast a few days back when almost all Chinese media sources began talking about the forthcoming Oppo R11S. Just like the Oppo R9S that has been launched after seven months since the original R9 was out, the company unleashed the Oppo R11S. The latter is the worthy successor of the Oppo R11 launched about 5 months back. As this company comes with a few models, the S-lettered model comes to boost the sales and help the manufacturer to sell more at the end of the year. Last year, this strategy helped Oppo to sell over 95 million units, and grab the second position among the top Chinese smartphone makers. This year is going to be hot as well. The company has shipped over 25.6 million units in the Q1, 27.8 million units in the Q2, and over 30.7 million units in the Q3. Thus it has already sold over 84 million smartphones in last three quarters. So as the Oppo R11S has been already out, most likely the company will hit 100 million shipped units, and keep the second position after Huawei.
Actually, the Oppo R9 and its successor, the Oppo R9S were great devices. That’s why it has been too difficult to make many changes and come in with another device. However, the company did its best and launched the original Oppo R11 with numerous hardware enhancements in comparison to the R9S. In this sense, it was the way easier to decide what changes should be done for the R11S. We mean, the trendiest feature of current flagship smartphones is the full-screen. So the company just has to launch a handset with such a feature before the end of the year.
The screen size has been increased from 5.5 inches to 6 inches, but thanks to the full-screen technology adoption the body size remain the same. The screen resolution has been changed as well. Now it is 2160×1080 pixels (FHD+). On the other hand, the changes and improvements mainly refer to the appearance, it’s expected to see the same hardware under the hood. The Oppo R11S still sports the same Snapdragon 660 chip, which is considered to be the best option for the super mid-range smartphones. It is paired with a 4+64GB memory option and features a 3120mAh battery supporting fast charge technology. The camera modules on the front and back are unchanged as well. So we can still find a 20+16MP dual-camera on the rear, and 20MP front shooter.
Below are the hands-on photos of the Oppo R11S, which is going to make a tough competition to other full-screen models such as the Xiaomi Mi MIX 2, Huawei Mate 10, iPhone X, and so on.
